There are as many methods and styles of beekeeping as there are beekeepers.  We offer an approach that is based on a clear understanding of bee biology.  This system of natural science has been consistently successful for us.

As professional beekeepers, honey producers and mead makers we are devoted to the art of apiculture and endeavour to improve all aspects in the life of beekeepers and bees.

By providing specialty tools and instructions for the novice, urban and hobbyist beekeeper we hope to encourage positive and sustainable beekeeping practises.

Beekeeping provides many benefits.  Although the initial attraction is the copious amounts of luscious honey and other hive products, the real life-affirmation occurs with the craft of keeping honey bees.  Learning about their behaviour, interacting with them, and realizing an emotional connection are esoteric yet rewarding.

Beekeeping also contributes to the well being of the environment, nature, agriculture, horticulture and humanity.

About Us

The Beekeeper is located in beautiful Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.  Here, he keeps several apiaries with his center of operation at Scotch Lake where traditional Meade is made of honey from the lush growth of wildflowers and the naturalized nectar plants of the old world.

During the busy season, The Beekeeper works with his energetic spouse and apprentices to manage the colonies, apiaries and honey harvests but can be found in person talking bees, playing chess and selling honey year round at the Cape Breton Farmers' Market (Saturdays 8:30am - 1:00pm) or seasonally at the Mabou Farmers' Market and the Baddeck Community Market.

This Nova Scotia beekeeper has been a professional apiarist here since the beginning of the twenty-first century.  His experience and spiritual connection with the wonderful, domesticated insects we call honey bees has inspired him to create and develop new beekeeping devices, tools and books to share with others.  These are now available for sale and can be viewed from the links in the menu bar above under Books and Tools.
